A customer and life long friend approaches me and asks for a “sick” finish on his Glock 17, which he has adorned with a Crimson Trace backstrap mounted laser grip. Now this guy is not just any ordinary customer. He owns two Tint Shops, and puts out some disgustingly sick cars, which is to say that tinting is only one piece of the work that he does. He gives me no guidance other than to say that he wants it to stand out and be loud.
I completed this gun twice but ended up stripping it down each time. After looking at the finished product, I did not think that it met my customer and friends expectations of “sick”. So I finished it in ACU Digital Camouflage and I loved it. He hated it. It did not meet his “loud” requirement. So we were at an impasse. I took the gun back home and thought about it for some time. He called me up and told me to come over to the shop. I did. He showed me a picture of a Bengal Tiger and asked me if I could make his gun look like the picture.
Did I pull it off? You tell me…. There is one thing to note when looking at this gun. Lauer Weapon Company sells templates and the product to produce this custom finish. NEITHER OF WHICH ARE ADEQUATE. The Bengal Brown they sell is way too brown, and the Tiger Stripe templates they sell with this kit are absolutely ridiculous. The stripes were a minimum of 1 inch in width and longer than the length of the weapon itself. So, now know that… you can see that we custom blended our out mixture for the orange color we were going for, and then spent hours meticulously cut out custom stripes that you see here.
The image below is the weapon after finishing. Completed pics will follow after a thorough inspection and test firing of the weapon. Stay tuned.
